Which memory modules will work in a Dell XPS 420?
I am looking at upgrading my Dell XPS 420 memory and want to ensure I get some that is compatible. I have checked on the crucial web site and see that the Dell XPS 420 supports the following DDR2:-
PC2-5300 (which is what is currently installed - 4x1GB)
PC2-6400
PC2-8500
I must admit I only thought the XPS 420 support up to the 6400? I would like to go to 8500 as this is better?
Which of the following memory upgrades would you suggest and can you advise if they will work or not:-

The memory you have mentioned is only 800mhz.
Does 1066mhz (PC2-8500) memory work in the Dell XPS or is 800mhz the maximum?
Which of the links to memory products should I go for? Which is the best one and will it work?

PC2 8500 is overkill and provides no advantage because your FSB is not higher.
Go for the one with the best warranty, guaranteed to work, at the lowest price.
Careful with Crucial. If you do not use their configurator and buy the exact part that is for your dell they
will not refund and will not warranty that it will work.
Best Support is buying the DELL part numbers from DELL.
