Yes, it's worth the upgrade and you will see a performance improvement. A quad is especially useful with audio and video editing. I'm running a Q6600 in my XPS410 and not looking back. Multitasking is so much better with the quad.

anyone know if the E7500 cpu, a 1066 FSB cpu, will work?

I bought the exact same XPS-410 Core 2 Duo with ME XP OP and installed to a boxed (happened to get GO stepping) Q-6600 2.40X4. I also went ahead and used 6400 800 speed DDR2 (4X1 sticks rather than 5300 667 speed) and it has been worth every penney even though at this stage extra or  4th ram stick does not help. I am not a computer wiz at all but instal went far easier than had planned, I kept original CPU cooler and fan setup and computer booted 1st try faster and everything showed installed and working like it was made by Dell to be set up that way. Now, I can get better NVIDIA 9 series or 3-D video card that I have wanted to use on single PCIe X16 slot. Will also be used for adding 2nd higher quality Blue Ray R/W DVD player for making videos and photo improvement as well. Adding a high end over 9500GT Video card and/or second DVD blue Ray player may take larger power supply also. The Dell XPS 375 watt unit is great -- but has limits and wish Dell would have used one about 425 watts or so. I am just tring to get most from 2007 XPS with PCIe and SATA raid equiped mother board as I can before having to buy new one.
