XPS 420: Re-installing SideShow gadgets
Being a TechNet subscriber I immediately reinstalled my OS with a full version of Vista Ultimate, partly because it is much quicker and cleaner than an upgrade from Home Premium, but also because it helps dekruft all the extras that I don't want. Unfortunately I cannot find the one thing I do want: the system gadgets (CPU, mem, etc) for the XPS MiniView Sideshow display. They are neither on my ResourceCD nor do they appear as an available download on the support site. Recovery partition, Google and forum search didn't turn up much either. Does anyone know where I can get these gadgets and how to enable them? I tried to add other gadgets from the "get more gadgets online" from the SideShow control panel applet but all it did was stick it in my Sidebar, not Sideshow. Thanks!

So when you go into Control Panel- Windows SideShow, do you see a table with a vertical list of installed gadgets and a horizontal list of installed devices?

Yes, I see the list, but it is only the default ones with a clean Ultimate install:
- Inbox
- Office Outlook 2007 Calnedar
- Media Player
I cannot find the download to reinstall the Miniview gadgets anywhere, and what I have found on the recovery partition and in the Ghost image I made of the original out of the box OS is a lot more complicated than an Apple widget, for sure. I am loathe to try and restore these files to my clean OS and monkey with the registry.
It seems that contrary to what we were told, Sidebar gadgets are not ubiquitous and must be extended to SideShow by the developer. But in any case, it would be nice if Dell had included the MiniView gadgets on the Resource CD or support downloads.
Thanks,
Justin
