XPS 630 Q6600 temps running hot?

Hello, I recently purchased a Dell XPS 630 and downloaded Core Temp to keep track of my cpu tempratures. The tempratures I saw seemed high so I was wondering if these are the right temps.

Core 0: 49C

Core 1: 43C

Core 2: 43C

Core 3: 49C

These tempratures are while my computer is idle. Core 0 and Core 3 temps vary from 48-49 and Core 1 and Core 2 temps vary from 42-43. Just wondering if these are normal tempratures. Thanks.

My Specs:

Dell XPS 630

Q6600 G0

3 Gbs of RAM at 800mhz

8800 GT

Nvidia Control Panel, Performance, CPU, set the fan to 40%, barely noticable, i set it too 100% for giggles and my temps went to 28c.. lol but yeah they are normal, but if ur like me i want my PC to run cooler.

so @ 40% my temps are: ( stock is 26% btw. )

Core 0: 37C

Core 1: 36C

Core 2: 37C

Core 3: 36C

I also set my GPU to run at 50% versus stock 29%, dropped from 61c to 53c.

Create a profile for these settings, after thats done, and the profile is saved, click on start, you'll see "start search" at bottom, my profile is userdflt, so i searched for that, right click, send too, destop ( create shortcut ) so when you click it, it applies your settings. :) unfortuantely the automatic part ( on reboot ) doesn't work for me.

Thanks for the quick replies and good luck.

I changed my CPU fan speed to 40% and GPU to 50% but the tempratures dipped only 2 or 3 degrees. The strange thing is that core 0 and core 3 are about 7-8 degrees hotter than core 1 and core 2.

Core 0: 45C

Core 1: 38C

Core 2: 37C

Core 3: 45C

I think core 1 and 2 are running on normal temps but why are core 0 and 3 so hot?

Oh and thanks for the quick reply.

cores 1 and 3 always seem to run hotter, but yours look fine, i wouldn't worry about those temps, they are fine, when gaming it will go up, it's made to go up, no worries. :)

Edit: it also depends on the heat of the room, when my room gets hot my computer temps raise, but thats a given, it could just be your room is a tad bit warm.

My idle temp (celcius):

Core 0: 32

Core 1: 31

Core 2: 32

Core 3: 27

And yes, I'm freezing my tail off (broken heater)

Core 0: 32

Core 1: 35

Core 3: 28

Aside from the fan speeds there are some basic things you can do that may help you.

1.) Placement of your computer - make sure its not boxed into a corner and that your allowing proper airflow all round, but especially at the front and rear. Make sure its not backed up right against a wall, allow at least a good 5 inches or more.

2.) Room temperature - your fans can only blow air as cool as the room temperature into the chasis, so if the room temp is high the cooling will be lower. Try to cool the room down a bit, open doors let air circulate, try and open a window, even a half inch can make a massive difference.

The temps seem on the top end of normal so I wouldn't be alarmed, but if you do the above it could shave 5 degrees off, maybe more.

keep an eye on yer set-up, this is what i found in the manual:

Temperature range:

Operating 0° to 40°C (32° to 104°F)

Storage –40° to 65°C (–40° to 149°F)

Remember those temps are for the ambient room temperature not the processor operating temperature.

Wow,  maybe I have a problem here my Q6600 CPU idle temps after running for a couple hour hover around:

CPU 1 - 58C

CPU 2 - 66C

CPU 3 - 61C

CPU 4 - 65C

This is with nVidia C/P settings: CPU cooling 53% HDD Fan 36% PCI Cage Fan 34%

Q6600 OC'ed to 2.7Ghz with stock voltage.

Is this normal for a OC'ed processor?

Your temps seem a tad high, but that could simply mean you're in a warm room.

It looks like you were asking about my settings once. Well, here they are:

FSB Memory Clock Mode: Unlinked

FSB (QDR), MHz: 1333

MEM (DDR), MHz: 1066

Memory Timing Setting

tCL 5, tRCD 5, tRP 5, tRAS 15, CMD 2T, tRC 22

Overvoltage Config

CPU Core 1.35

CPU FSB 1.35V

Memory Voltage 2.15V

Since you said you were running Corsair Dominators, see if my settings work for you.

I'm running at 3GHz. And my CPU temps are decent at stock cooling options:

CPU 1 - 50C

CPU 2 - 50C

CPU 3 - 44C

CPU 4 - 50C

Smuggler, i don't know why this didn't come to mind sooner, are you using Nvidia System Monitor to track your temps? because they give false CPU temps on the 630, mine shows 60C+ on that and 36C on core temp, and everest.
