XPS 700 CPU upgrade?

How can I find out what the "top end" CPU would be for my Dell XPS 700?  Right now I have a Intel Dual-Core 6400 running at 2.13GHz... I've seen reviews with much faster CPU's so I'm guessing mine is on the lower end?  And (newbie question) am I correct that this is a LGA 775 socket CPU?

as far as i am aware of, the xps 700 biggest cpu ugrade is the core 2 duo x6800... i don,t believe the quads will work on the 590 chipset.

cpus that i believe will work on your rig-

Intel Edition Core 2 Extreme/Core 2 Duo/Pentium Extreme/Pentium D/ P4/ Celeron D 1066FSB LGA775

Quads do work on the 590/570 chipset unfortunately only when paired with the 710 board. As mentioned the x6800 is the top line chip for the 700, its still a very good chip, especially for gaming.

thanks for the info, i was not too sure if the quads worked on the 590 chipset, must be the dell bios that only supports the 710 for quad setup.

okay, i found this list, and does looks like a dell bios limitation on the 700 xps

2 ground ref lines were missing from the 700 PCB board but added to the 710 to make it quad compatiable.

Hi guys,

I do have a XPS 700 with a Q6600 running with no problems at all. BIOS is 1.4.1.
