XPS 710 compatible processors
I was hoping to find an XPS 710 FAQ, but it wasn't on the list of system-specific FAQs.
I would like to know which CPUs I can use to upgrade my XPS 710.
- Which are the best Dual- and Quad-core processors that are known to work?
- Are there any limits on the front side bus (FSB) speed that influences my choice of CPU?
- If a processor of say 3 GHz is known to work, can I automatically assume that any CPU of equal or lower speed will work?
Any input will be much appreciated.

The wolfdale and Yorkfield processors will not work.
The Q6600 is known to work. This would be the best processor for the money to put into the system.
All your choices are limited to the FSB which in the case of the 710 is 1066mhz.

Thanks for your help -- I will definitely consider the Q6600. I would still like to see a more complete list, though. In particular, I would like to know the fastest Core2Duo I can use in my system.

as far a i know there is no official list and doubt there ever will be except what Dell orginally published which did not include the quads and most Core 2's.
Since a Q6600 runs you should be able to us a E6600/e6700

Thanks again Dave! I will probably consider a motherboard upgrade. I couldn't find any info on my country's Dell page, so I sent my contact at Dell an e-mail.

you do know that only a Dell board will work. The only upgrade you will have would be a 720 mb
