XPS 8100 USB 3.0 card Installation
Hi,
I have an XPS 8100 and have bought a USB 3.0 external hard drive and a PCI-e USB 3.0 adapter card. Problem is that the power supply does not have any 4-pin Molex connectors that the adapter card need for power (+12v). I'm not talking spare Molex, I mean none. I understnd that there are "SATA to molex" cables, but both of my SATA connectors are in use - I have 2 DVD drives installed. Any suggestions - a USB 3.0 card that doesn't need an external power source? another kind of adapter cable with molex ends?
I had somebody suggest I install a new power supply which has spare molex connectors. This seemed a bit extreme, but I may go that route. Any suggestions on a proven replacement power supply for 8100?

Dell PSU's are now SATA power connectors, and a good option would be to get a new PSU, as they are not dear to buy. See HERE.

Buy a SATA Y power splitter, to use with the SATA to Molex adaptor, similar to this,
