XPS 8100 replacing internal Hard Drive - advice on SATA interface
Hi Our oldish Dell desktop XPS 8100 has been diagnosed with hard drive issues, frequent check disc running and several blue screens. I just need advice if the replacement hard drive will be OK to use.
Current HD Samsung 103SJ interface SATA II (3 Gbit/S.) 1TB, 7,200 rpm Cache 32 MB
proposed HD Western digital Blue 1TB 3.5" SATA Desktop Hard Drive with
SATA-III 6Gb/s interface 7200rpm / 64MB cache
The Dell is on Win 7 64bit. which has been reliable over the past 5years.

The Studio XPS 8100 has two 3.5" bays for hard disk drives. It has four SATA 2.0 (1.5Gbps/3.0Gbps) ports. You need to make sure that the proposed WD drive is backward compatible to SATA 2.0. Check the specifications on the site selling it.
