XPS 8500 cmos battery draining issues
Hi,
I had a dell XPS 8500, recently I had program booting up the system and got a 5 beep upon power on( which according to manual is RTM issues) which I solve by changing a new cmos battery. but after two days after the battery change the issues came back again And it was resolve once I put in a new cmos battery. I had try this 4 time with 4 new cmos battery
I had also tested the battery and found that it is dead, after remove from the system.
Now I'm suspecting some thing is causing the cmos battery to be drain, but I had no idea how to trace the root cause of it
Can some one pls advice on how can I find the cause of the battery draining.
(my xps is out of warranty for a year and I'm from sg where dell doesn't sell the motherboard parts any more)

Just to mention that I'm having the same problem you describe with the same model of computer. If I discuss a solution, I'll try to get back to you.

Are you turning off power to the PC at a power strip, USP, wall switch or disconnecting the plug from the wall at end of day?
Does motherboard LED stay on as long as PC is connected to AC power, even when the PC is off? That LED should be on 24/7, unless you disconnect the power completely and press/hold power button for ~15 sec.
Could be a motherboard issue that may require it to be replaced. For starters, suggest you reseat all RAM modules, PCI cards, and cables inside the PC.
