XPS 8500 hard drives and ivy bridge

Hi all

I just got my new XPS8500 w 7icore and the 250GB SSD. Maybe stupid question, but is the SSD HD visible as separate partition or drive? I only have a C drive w 1 TB. So what am I missing?

Not stupid at all! Check to see what is installed in Computer Management (type it in the Start Box) Choose Disk Management to see a visual representation of all your drives.

I would check your system configuration. I believe  the SSD is an option

Thanks - I see that there one physical drive with a large OS C: partition, a smaller Recovery partition and a tiny OEM partition. There is no other hard drive. I opened the PC and to me it seems they have installed only one hard drive assuming the SSD drives are not microscopic. I thought the XPS8500 comes ONLY WITH the SSD drive?

The only 8500 configuration that comes with an ssd drive included is the top of line model for about $2000--starts at $1300. You have to special order it with the others. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dxdwps4s&model_id=xps-8500&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19

Thanks all - indeed I missed that. Not that I really needed it, but is it complex to add it later? Plug in the SSD and use for booting and having the Win7 on it? Would require a reinstall of the OS.
