XPS 8700 Connection to displayport
Hello All, This is my first post to the community. I have been trying to nail down answers to my question doing Bing searches but it has been frustrating. Put in a request for information to Dell Support several days ago but have not heard back from them yet. I did not see an option for recording my email address when I signed up my username so I don't know how this would be known. However my email is "bonnecarrere@cox.net". I bought an XPS 8700 in August with I7 4790, 16G Ram, 1TB HDD, Geforce GTX 745 GPU. I have been running this through an E173P monitor that I bought with my XP rig back in 2004 (still has great picture but it's 4.3 aspect ratio, 1024 res, VGA etc.) Upgrade time.
My GPU has HDMI, DVI-D, and VGA output. I am looking at several monitors but especially looking at the Dell u2415 which has HDMI, Displayport, and Mindisplayport inputs. The questions that I have are: 1. Is the HDMI out on my card sufficient to carry this resolution (1920x1200) at 60fps. 2. A seemingly more difficult question to answer is: If for some reason I have issues with HDMI, can the DVI-D be adapted to the Displayport in on the monitor. I am assuming that my DVI-D ouput is dual link. I did a fair amount of searching for an answer to this question and have seen answers all over the place. Most of the adapters that I saw stated that they were "Displayport to DVI-D" never "DVI-D to Displayport". Does that matter? Can this be done? Anyway, before I order the monitor I really need to make sure that it will work with my GPU. Assistance will be appreciated. Thanks.

Its not passive so no. Its also not bi directional.
DVI to HDMI is passive.
DVI -A to VGA is Passive.
Display port is active.
You can get display port >>>>> To DVI
You cannot get DVI >>>>>To Display port.
So the short answer is No you cant do that.

Is it possible to adapt or convert DVI-D dual link out from my computer to Displayport in at new monitor and, if so, who makes such an adapter?

Geforce GTX 745 out ports = DVI-D 2560x1600, HDMI 1.4a 1920x1200, VGA 2048x1536
U2415 in ports = HDMI 1920x1200, HDMI 1920x1200, DP 1920x1200, mDP 1920x1200
The U2415 only ships with the mDP to DP cable. So your best choice is to purchase an HDMI to HDMI cable locally and connect that way.
Geforce GTX 745 HDMI out --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> U2415 HDMI in
The other subject, DVI to DP =
A video card DVI out port cannot up convert to a monitor DP/mDP in ports via a straight cable.
Video card DVI out --> DVI to mDP converter --> Dell mDP to DP cable --> Monitor DP in
