XPS 8700 RAM Upgrade - not using full capacity

I decided to max out my RAM on my XPS 8700 to 32 GB. After booting up I see I am only using one half of the total. I checked out the system settings to see if there is something that needs to be set but I cannot see anything that will help.

Is there a hardware DIM switch or something to set the RAM correctly? I looked in the user guide but only can see how to swap out RAM modules.

If you have windows 7 home, your max allowed memory is 16GB.  If you have Pro you can go up to 192GB.  Windows 8 and higher increased the memory limit.

If this doesn't apply, you might have some bad RAM.

Thanks for that. You are correct about the Windows 7 version. I was getting my system ready for an eventual Windows 10 upgrade anyway so eventually I'll use it all.
