XPS 8910, Dual Monitor, Nvidia GTX 970?

Question

I just got a new XPS 8910, so far so good. But the video card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 970) only has one video output on the card, DVI-D. I want to connect a second monitor, which is DVI-D or VGA input. There are lots of other sockets on the back-panel, several HDMI, one DP (DisplayPort). Are the HDMI all outputs? And the DP for a second monitor?

There is only one HDMI out port on the rear of the chassis, #4. #3 is the onboard DP (DisplayPort) out.

Because there is not a "Multi Display" option in the Bios. This means if a video card is added (GeForce GTX 970), you cannot use the onboard DP out or HDMI out ports for monitors.

You must attach both monitors to the added GeForce GTX 970.

The Dell OEM GeForce GTX 970 has the following video out ports =
DVI-I
DP
DP
DP
HDMI 2.0

So if monitor #2 only has DVI and VGA in ports, you will need to connect it to the HDMI out port on the GeForce GTX 970.

GeForce GTX 970 DVI-I out --> DVI to DVI cable --> #1 monitor DVI in
GeForce GTX 970 HDMI out --> HDMI to DVI cable --> #2 monitor DVI in

You can buy the HDMI to DVI cable at Walmart, Best Buy, etc.

I had misidentified the additional 4 output ports from the GTX-970 (on a separate card plug-out).

If I instead used two VGA monitors, #1 can use a DVI-I to VGA adapter (system came with one), and for #2 I could convert from DP to VGA ( - but would that be a quality loss issue? Or convert from the HDMI to VGA (same issue?). Is one a better approach?

Oops, sorry, typo:  DP to VGA. From a DP output of the video card to a VGA monitor.

Going from video card DP out to monitor VGA via a DP to VGA cable will work. But you will need a converter.DP out --> DP to VGA out converter --> VGA to VGA cable --> Monitor VGA in

I have a new query related to this item.

My screens duplicate, but the mouse doesn't cross between screens and frankly it's sending me up the wall. I have/had a perfect two screen set up with an XPS 8700, but that's just had a rebuild and may not last that much longer, so I've bought the new 8910 and at the moment I'm tearing my hair out.

Any helpful advice will be welcome.

The best visual quality will be had if you stay all digital. Display Port or DVI will give the best performance. HDMI will work too, but I prefer DP or DVI.
