I agree. That seems ridiculous. I, for one was very anxious to install XP when it came out. I hope they re-think their decision. Come on Dell, help us out.
My machines an XPST450. It came with 98SE, the multimedia was terrible. The DVD was shaky, the TV Card would actually lock up the system. I installed ME but now the operating system is flaky, the multimedia works great. I was looking forward to Windows XP to solve my problems. Like you I found out that Dell is dropping update support. This thing isn't even 2 years old. I've bought three Dells so far, this could be my last. I can't believe after paying a premium price, they drop you and suggest you buy a brand new machine. I know PC Sales are slow, this isn't the way to boost them. They could lose loyal customers. I hope they change their mind.
Where did see that Dell has decided to stop making updates for XPS B bios? That would be horrible 'cause I also own a XPS B933r. Please provide me with a link.
Hey look at it this way Im sure someone at Dell has a B series PC. So when they upgrade to XP if they find a problem they will report it to the bios people and they will fix it and post it on the web. But I doubt you need a bios upgrade. It should work just fine. My PC works fine in Windows 2k and the BIOS doesn't even have specific support for it!
The link listed is a standard disclaimer that indicates that we have not tested nor provide specific support for operating systems that the system was not designed and tested specifically to work with. This does not mean that newer operating systems will not work on the system or that there may not be BIOS updates that may deal with a specific operating system.
I have an XPS B933, and Windows XP has run perfectly on this system...no need for a BIOS update here, Windows XP supports everything in my current BIOS (the one that came with the computer...I *think* it is either A04 or A06...but I never need to restart so I haven't bothered looking =P
No stick with dell. If you dont care about your system warranty then you could do it. But if you try to use any DEll OEM software it will not work at all and you cannot go back to dell ever!
Dell tests and provides driver and BIOS support for systems as they are shipped from the factory including all factory shipped peripherals and operating systems. This does not mean that newer operating systems and components will not work on the system, the web site just indicates that there is no guarantee of testing drivers/BIOS releases for future operating systems. Also keep in mind that Windows XP is not a released operating system at this time, but there have been several users that report using the XPS B___r system with Windows XP with no problems.
I have a XPS B 733 R and I'm running win xp home edtion sp1 .
I just installed win xp he a week ago and have had no problems whatsoever ,in fact things are very smooth. My bios is A02 And was thinking of updating to the newest one but have not been able to reach the download .I keep getting the not applicaple in the box. The reason I was thinking of updating was to try and improve performance as sometimes I have lag issues playing intensive gaming online but that's to be expected. Can I still download a flash the bios ? and if yes How do I get the bios? tia!

Thank you for visiting DELLTalk.
Flashing the BIOS on the system to a non-Dell BIOS (Intel or other) will void the warranty on the system.
