XPS Generation 4 not showing all 4GB RAM in Windows

I have a Dimension/XPS gen 4 with 4GB RAM running windows xp pro x64. All 4GB RAM show in BIOS but windows only sees 3GB. Can anybody give explain to me why this is? I think that DELL has to upgrade the bios to support memory remapping.

Are you sure you are running the 64bit edtion of Windows XP Professional?

The 32bit edition will not address the 4th Gb, but the 64bit will. Check again please.

Mombodog found an article recently that I think explains what your are seeing.  I'm afraid the bios is not the only thing that needs to change if your 64 bit os doesn't see all 4 GB of memory.

Guess that's why I enjoy them so much; don't always get them to do what I want them to do, but it's almost always fun trying!
