XPS One 27/KM713 Keyboard & Mouse not connecting

Question

Hi. I recently bought an XPS One 27 (Windows 8, 64-bit). It came with a KM713 keyboard and mouse combo. However I cannot get it to connect. I have tried replacing the batteries, updated the drivers and BIOS - still nothing. When I turn the keyboard or mouse on, the battery light stays on for about 15 seconds then turns off (which i believe is normal behavior). When I go to PC Settings --> Devices, it has "Dell KM713 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse" listed in there. No matter what I do, it won't connect. Any ideas??

Hi aleks_m,

It is unfortunate that the Keyboard Mouse combo fails to work. I suggest you to connect the USB adapter to a different USB port and check if it works. You may also check if the device has a Yellow bang in Device Manager.

Please let me know about the status.

Thanks for your reply Rajath.

I have downloaded the latest Dell WiFi and BT Driver (DW1703_QCA_W84_A02_SETUP-9JCV4_ZPE) and installed it and then restarted the PC. I checked device manager, there was no yellow bang. Under the Bluetooth section is has the following items listed: Dell Wireless 1703 Bluetooth, Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator, and Microsoft Bluetooth LE Enumerator.

When i first opened the box there was no USB adapter. I assumed it was internal to the PC? I have checked all the boxes that came and there is no USB adapter. I seem to be missing it. How can I receive one of these?

Further to the above, when I access the UEFI, there is no mention of Bluetooth. Also, the PC will not detect my phone or tablet via Bluetooth. What do I need to do to have a USB adaptor sent to me?

Thank you for your reply and for providing an update on the status. I was referring to the USB Wireless Receiver provided with the keyboard and mouse combo similar the adapter provided in the link below:

I suggest you to uninstall the Bluetooth device from the Device Manager and restart the system and check if it work properly.

Please send the system Service Tag(including the name on the account and contact details) to me via Private Message, if you could not locate the wireless adapter. I will check the system details and let you know the options available.

Thanks for your response. I did not receive a USB wireless Receiver with the keyboard and mouse combo. I have double-checked the boxes, but there is nothing in there.

This is disappointing to hear that there are more cases of this. I ended up calling Dell technical support and explained the situation to them. They were quite helpful and arranged for a replacement to be shipped (which should arrive today sometime). You will need to hand over the original keyboard and mouse in the box before the courier can give you the replacement. They will not ship the USB receiver alone. Hopefully the replacement has the receiver in the box!

this might be a little late and weird that dell don't realise it but the usb receiver on the xps one comes preinstalled in the computer in a hidden port on the underside of the screen.

If you look along the bottom you'll see the speaker grill. The left hand side is a silver/grey cover. Open that and there is the receiver in there plugged in to an extra port.

This is how it is in my model anyway. Gives you back a USB port

Found the mini USB receiver in the keyboard/mouse box, cunningly hidden as a tiny black item in a fold of the black box. To install in XPS 27 go under the screen, to the right of the speaker grill there is a tiny grey trap door, hinged on the right so prise gently open on the left. The mini USB receiver is fiddly to install in an awkward position but should be a once-only job. Mentioned to dell that the keyboard/mouse quick start guide in the box could have said this & saved us all a lot of time. Answer was: it is in online guide to save paper. Wonder therefore why they took a whole page to print in thirteen languages the misleading 'The USB receiver may be pre-installed on your computer'. Good luck folks.

Stumbled on this thread late, after in fact my issues was solved - but just as a follow up, this 'hidden' Keyboard USB transmitter/receiver and the keyboard/mouse (? Bluetooth connection) can be knocked out/off line.  In my case the use loss killed the wireless keyboard, but not the mouse.  I was able to connect an extra wire Keyboard via one of the 'other' USB 3.0 ports and get to Dell Tech support, who I gather had to re-install a USB driver that had mysteriously been disabled or corrupted.  That restored the wireless Keyboard +Mouse to full functionality.

These are NOT bluetooth wherein lies part of the problem. Don't lose the transmitter because they are not orderable as a separate part.
