dell dimension 4300s won't boot. please help!!

I have a dell dimension 4300s that's about 12 years old. I've only replaced the Ethernet card and added a new fan to it, since the old one died. I've recently moved and when i went to boot the computer nothing happened. I don't hear the fan or any beeping. I opened the tower and all i see is a solid amber light on the Motherboard. Are there any fixes to this??

Could be a power supply failure, try installing a different unit, to see if it makes a difference, as you require a know working power supply to test the computer and/or the motherboard.

What color is the power button, and is it steady or blinking? What color are the 4 diagnostic LEDs on the back panel? Error codes are in the manual.

It's possible the motherboard battery died while it was unplugged. You may want to replace it. 3-volt CR2032 lithium ion battery, ~$2-$3 at discount stores.

neither the power button nor the 4 LEDs in the back light up.

Since none of the LEDs come on, it's possible the PSU failed.

If there's a voltage selector switch on the rear of the case, make sure it's still set to the correct voltage for your location. Do NOT change that setting unless the PC is unplugged from the wall, and be sure it's set correctly before reconnecting to the outlet.

You might want to check that all the cables are correctly connected to the motherboard and nothing got jarred loose during the move.

Are your sure the new outlet works properly?

If you use a power strip or surge protector, you might want to remove those and connect PC directly to a working outlet.

I dont see a voltage selector on the back of this unit. I checked to see if all the cables are correctly connected and everything seems to fine. Only thing i see, is that Solid Amber Light on the motherboard.

Ron, I am having an issue where my dimension 4300s is beeping 4 times and then two more times after a pause. It has been sitting for about five or six years and I wanted to get it running again. Any suggestions?

First thing is to replace the motherboard battery which is probably long dead. CR2032, 3-volt lithium ion battery, ~$2.00 at discount stores.
