dell precision 410 ide hard drive not recognized after XP starts install, an error much like a SCSI drive without its driver disk....

I have a client with a 410 that wants to upgrade to XP Pro, upon boot via cd rom it cannot find the ide hard drive, can someone tell me what driver and or bios upgrades do I need to find it?? His SCSI drive crashed so he wants me to install an IDE drive instead, I have disconnected the SCSI drive but it still doesn't see the IDE during XP installation, it does see it in the bios setup. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You have installed the drive wrong.
The 410/610 ETC work just fine with IDE. Update the bios to A14 and set the drive to cable select.

I use Dos,WIN95,WIN98,WIN2000,XP and Ide drives all the time on 410's and there are no issues whatsoever.

You must enable the drive in BIOS and install the drive on the PRIMARY IDE Controller.
