What is the model number of the original proc and what is the model number of the one you upgraded to? Not all processors are supported.

First thought, go back and check all your cables, both power and other cabling and verify it is all connected properly (and connectors properly seated). The power light on the motherboard only denotes the power supply has power, not that it is OK. Do you get any power on indicator light and if you do what is the color and is it solid or flashing. If there is no light it suggests that there could be a bad/missing connection, a coincidental power supply failure, or that the CPU is incompatible.

What is the sSpec number of the 2.80 that was installed?
You can use Northwood, P-4, 533/400MHz, 512k cache and 128k for Celeron.
The maximum processor for a Dimension 4550, is a P-4, 3.06/533MHz, 512k cache.
You cannot use P-4 Prescotts, 1mb cache, the 256k Celeron-D, or Core-2, no 800MHz FSB, on a Dimension 4550 motherboard.
Prior to installing the processor, did you check that BIOS version A08 is installed, when additional support for newer processors was added.
Bev.
