driver for sony handycam

does windows xp already have the driver for the dcr-trv350 sony handycam digital8 camcorder? i have a dim 4600, xp home media center addition, soundblaster 5.1. i was told by sony not to load the driver for the camcorder. also, i was told to capture video through the usb port, not the firewire port provided by dell movie studio plus. the sony software (it came with the camcorder) is supposed to be effective for capture through the usb port and will produce a video cd, not a dvd. if i want to burn to dvd do i need to install the driver? the sony user manual advises to install the driver when using the usb port for usb stream, but when i called sony the technician told me windows xp already has the driver. is the driver already in windows xp home for usb capture or firewire capture for this camcorder?
