driver help..... for a old 4500 pc

I have a old 4500 pc and had to re-install xp from scratch.....   now the pc says that the MULTIMEDIA AUDIO is not working, I don't have the resource CD and i don't know what drivers to download.....   can anyone help    please......  

 

 

 

 my son would love to have the pc up and running again after his dad buggered it up for him!!!!!

Start here with the correct order to install drivers after a reformat.   The 1st 2 (especially chipset) are important - without them the hardware may not be properly identified:

As for Audio, once you get to that one in the list, even with your service tag you may still have multiple choices listed.  You'll need to know which audio option (integrated or one of the PCI sound cards) you have.  If it's integrated (jacks in the middle of the tower near the USB/keyboard ports), use the Analog Devices driver.  If it's one of the PCI cards (jacks in one of the bottom slots) and you don't have the original drivers CD for the card, it may be tough to find a working driver.   The Dell versions of the cards are usually different from the retail ones available from the manufacturer's sites, and for reasons I don't know Dell does not publish them on the site - what's listed are only patches.

thanks for the quick reply.....   The audio plugs are in the middle, so I'm in luck and can find the driver.  will post how i get on later....
