exiting sleep mode

The 660s has what I believe is a sleep mode key--it's near the caps-lock indicator, and has a 1/4 moon icon.

It does appear to place PC in sleep mode, but how do I exit sleep mode; i.e., wake up the PC? I've tried shaking mouse, pressing the enter key, etc., I end up rebooting.

I'm having a similar issue on a new T1700 workstation. After locking the computer and coming back the next morning, both the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive. The power light is on, but the computer won't wake up. This has happened fairly frequently. The only solution I've found is to hold the power button in till it shuts down, then do a cold start. The screen about abnormal shutdown appears, and then it will reboot normally.

I have another question for Dell.  Does anyone from Dell monitor these forums?

It doesn't appear so, as I have yet to see a response from anyone who appears to be associated with Dell. If they were to address issues on these forums, they might save a ton on money on support calls (and have customers who were actually happy with the support they receive).
