fedora core 4 linux driver for dim3000 sound card?

ive recently decided to dual boot XP Home with fedora core 4 (im determined to give up windows eventually!). the problem is that my sound card isnt producing sound correctly. the sound comes out all staticy and distorted. its not the speakers, and the sound still plays correctly in windows. ive read up and it seems to be a driver problem i think. in the hardware browser the card shows up as an intel something or other, but the windows driver on the Dell website says it is an ADI 198x i believe. can i use the one of the Dell provided Red Hat drivers? or is there another driver or driver source you can recommend? thanks for trying...
