On my new xps420, I received a hdmi cable ,I have a connection for it on the monitor but not on the video card ,what is the advantage of this cable?, I have seen a cable with dvi on one end and hdmi on the other.

Yes, you will definitely get a better picture. Whether you will notice a dramatic difference in Flight Sim or not, I couldn't really say. In order to get maximum performance in Flight Sim, you also need a good gpu (graphics processing unit).

It will allow your monitor to display in HD (high def) format.

You need to purchase an HDMI adapter. You can get the one pictured below at your local WalMart for $15.

Its hard to figure Dell out

You're telling me? LoL I must say, if you want anything done then you should speak with Chris or Larry who frequent this forum. They're both troopers are getting things taken care of when you have a problem.

It will do nothing on the monitor end if the monitor end has a HDMI connection. There really no advantage to the HDMI over the DVI unless your monitor has built in speakers.

Both cables will give you a digital signal to the monitor the HDMI cable/connection also will output audio. That is the only difference.

Its hard to figure Dell out ,they won't give you a mouse pad or the leather bound booklet for your disks

but they will send  with your order a vga cable, a dvi cable plus an adapter from dvi to vga, then with that they also send the hdmi cable, with no adapter, doesn't make sense, They could just send you the hdmi cable with the adapter and save quite a bit on unnecessary cables being sent out

I have come to find that these "nice little extras" are fleeting in the time frame in which they are offered.

In the past I have bought xpsr 450,2400,8100,8200 plus 2 xps420,the last 420 I purchased 2 weeks ago did not have the mouse pad or booklet for the disks that you receive for the computer, I called about it ,and the people I spoke to were very rude ,so I decided to drop it

I have to agree with Davet50 about the HDMI cable.

I have used the VGA, DVI, and HDMI cables and I notice no difference in screen quality at all.

To purchase a DVI to HDMI adapter would be a waste of money.

You are still starting out with a DVI signal and just passing it through.

Hope this helps.
