how to uninstall windows me and linux
I have a new dimension 8100 computer. I have windows ME and I recently added another partition for Linux. I have 12GB for windows ME and 8GB for Linux. I would like to get rid of both of these operating systems and do a clean installation of windows 2000 and later on add Linux. I am doing this because I am getting sick of windows ME and how slow it is and how many times it freezes on me. All I need to know is how to clear my hard drive completely and install windows 2000 from scratch. I dont want to update from windows ME to 2000 or anything like that. I have heard of many problems that people have had with upgrading things. Can anyone please help me? Thank you very much!

Back up all the files that you will need first, then run fdisk from your Dell resources CD. and have 2K format your HD.
Be sure that you have all your drivers that you will need. When I dumped Me for 2K, I found most of the drivers on the drivers CD and some from Dell downloads.

Back stuff up.
Since you only wanted to know how to install i will tell you but i wont tell you how to set up your MBR for 2k and linux cause 2k has its own boot loader and it always wants to be installed. But i will tell you how to set it up but since you should go here www.linux.org and look up how to do a boot with 2k without floppy. Anywho here put in the linux cd rom.
let it load up then go into setup. Next go to the screen where it lets you use disk druid or fdisk (im assuming red hat linux). Use fdisk to delete the partitions there and save the partition table. Next install your linux with 8gb but in the screen where it has install lilo chose not to install it on MBR and make sure u select the floppy option okie. Once thats done its time to put in the 2k disk. Chose either NTFS (linux cant read NTFS or write to it so if you want to share files between the 2 you cant) or Fat 32. You sa done sa

Suspecting something was wrong with the MBR (since Lilo was in there & I had been playing with boot magic) & that the Linux partition was still out there, I ended up doing a fdisk /mbr, & ran a debug script to convert the non-dos partition into a DOS one so fdisk could see it & remove it. After I ran the debug script, lo & behold, the 8G partition Linux had lived on suddenly appeared when I did fdisk again. I was then able to delete the partition & reformat/reinstall Win98. No problems with this format/install, it's running great now. I'll add Linux later...I miss it.

The best way I've found is to partion hard drive and install Linux first (although if you make a boot disk shouldn't matter). I partitoned space for Win 98, Win2000 or XP and then Linux. I installed linux first, but instead of a bootion option, I made a boot disk. This helps so much. Then on the FAT 32 partions, I installed w98 and w2000. So try this
Don't panic, at first, you aren't given the option for the boot disk. Red HAt doesn't prompt you for this until you are almost done with the install. Let me know if this works. I've done this twice on two machines and haven't had any problems.
I did run into the same w2000 issue as you, but once I did the boot disk (although red hat says you don't have to) it was fine. I recommend however that u do make a boot disk
