i570, and graphics card help please!
So i'm not the best with computers, but I've spent at least three hours researching graphics cards and what I want. I've learned that shopping for a graphics card isn't as easy as going to a store and saying "duhh dat one!" So i've decided to ask for help. First let me go over what I want.
- Good mid - high range GPU. (For gaming, games like BF3 and Skyrim)
- $100-$190 USD
- I want to avoid getting a power supply, but am willing if its not possible.
- For higher end video games I'm fine with mid graphics, but if its around $150 to get high end graphics I will.
After doing some research i've learned that ati radeon hd/4850 is a good choice, and so is the 6850. But I have no clue about graphics cards and whats compatible and what isn't.
My "rig":
Dell inspiron 570 64 bit
Processor: AMD Athlon II x2 250 3GHz
RAM: 4gb DDR3
I currently am running of HMDI, so if the graphics card does not support VGA, it is not a problem.
Please if you have any suggestions for a graphics card please post links, names, price ranges, and other needed items like a cooler/power supply.

I see that you are posting on different forums asking the same questions. You only have a 300 watt power supply so for any decent gaming graphics card you will have to upgrade the PSU. The HD 4850 is an old card and will not work with your power supply. The HD 6670 is probably the best you can do without the upgrade. However, the better HD 7750 that recently came out does show to use less power than the HD 6670 so it may be worth the try.

Thank you for the response, but I've noticed that these are products only available off of dell. I'm aware there are better products, and cheaper products out there and I want to see what else is possible. Because with the 4650 I'd only be able to play higher end games at mid settings and it will still cost $150. I've been searching the web for numerous hours and from my estimation its around $80-120 for this kind of quality, while a good graphics card should be around 150-180.

Thanks Kelbear, your post was what I was looking for exactly. I'm looking into a 6670 right now. Is there anything to be aware of when looking for one? Like will like lets say a different brand not work with my computer?

Brand can just be a personal preference. The HD 6670 comes with both DDR3 & DDR5 memory with the latter costing more and generally giving you better performance. Sapphire is usually AMD's top brand, but I look at the cooling on the card (heatsink & fan) and noise level. I kind of like these two HERE. The Asus has DDR5 memory and the Sapphire has DDR3. If you need specific connections, then you may want to look at that too.

So i've been considering the ASUS. from what i can tell it is compatible with my desktop. Would a simpleton like me have problems installing it into my computer? I've read for my computer that often graphics cards would not fit, and the person would often have to force room in order for it to fit.

The HD 6670 is a relatively small video card so it will fit. It just simply snaps right into your PCIe X16 slot so you should have no problems. Just follow the instructions in your manual on how to install a PCI Express card. The ASUS card due to its larger heatsink & fan will take up more space width wise. Therefore, you simply cannot have some other PCIe X1 card in the slot right below it. If you do, move it to the next one down since you have two. If you actually have both PCIe X1 slots being used by cards, then you will need to consider a single slot card for the HD 6670.

I'd like to thank you again Kelbear, you have been super helpful and answered all my questions. I feel a lot more confident in buying a graphics card. I almost bought a overpriced one at best buy that didn't even do what i wanted it to, because i was scared to buy one off the internet not knowing what i was doing. the graphics card you have suggested is exactly what I was looking for. Its in my price range, it doesn't require a PSU, and it does what I want it to do.

Graphics card should be coming today. Got the ASUS 6670. I pre-installed some games that i thought my current graphics card would have problems with and surprised on what the 4200 could actually handle. So i'm excited for my graphics card to arrive. I'll post later on the results and what i think of it.
