install new video card in 8250

I have a dimension 8250, running vista, with1032 ram, i bought a radeon x1300 512 agp video card, installed it but got nothing, just a blank screen, can anyone help, also do i use just any free power cable inside the computer, they all seem very short, thanks Sean
