my dell optiplex gx620 starting up
Help...I have a optiplex gx620 that will not start up...it was working fine for about a month after I purchased it...then will not start it makes a funny noise and the numbers 3 and 4 are the only numbers lighting up. I have tried booting with a recovery disk....but its not working What should I do/get? I am sick of having it as paperweight. anyone that can help...really will be grateful. thanks:emotion-42: It might be A easy thing to fix..I just need to know what to do?

is a memory problem. If it's in warranty, call Dell support. If it's not in warranty the first thing to do is reseat the memory modules. Reseat - with the PC powered off, open the case and remove each memory module - one at a time and then reinstall it making sure it's fully and correctly seated. If this does not help, remove all except one memory module and then power it on and see if it will work. If it does then one of the memory modules you removed is bad. If it stil has a problem, replace the one memory module installed with one of the other memory modules and try.
If the problem still persists, there is most likely a motherboard problem.

Also, before touching anything in the PC such as the memory, ground yourself first, by touching just the PC frame's metal.

I have a gx620 and am having a similar problem. Sometimes, when I push the power button, it will turn on for a second and right back off.
If I keep pushing it over and over eventually it will turn on and i get the 3 and 4 numbers. After a few minutes of restarting it will finally boot up and run normally.
I researched the matter and found a forum that mentions bad capacitors on the motherboard. Just to the backside of the processor.
Opened mine up and removed the harddrive and sure enough there are 4 capacitors leaking and bulging. I havent replaced them yet. but am 100% confident this will fix the problem with my computer.
If you are any good at soldering and now what an electrolytic capacitor looks like. It should be easy. I suggest you check the big capacitors under the harddrive.
