r430 ddr1 atom bios

when i turn on my system the only thing that is shown on the screen is:  r430 ddr1 atom bios

the system is a dimension 4700 with 1 gig of ram on the motherboard.  it has a sapphire pci express radeon x800 video card with 128megs of ram which i added about 6 months ago.  this error is intermitten in that it cropped up about 2 weeks ago.  the system will not boot or go to bios.  when the system does boot it takes you to the bios set up of hit f1 or f2.  if you shut down the computer and hit the power button.  it may boot one out of 20 or 30 trys.  my son is a warcraft hound and is having withdrawals.

When this occurs does the system give an error code with the diagnostic lights which could help pin point the problem?  Click here for an explanation of the diagnostic light error codes for your model from the on-line Service Manual.

If the diagnostic lights are of no help then I would be looking at the graphics card as the possible source of the problem.  The " r430 ddr1 atom bios" message is an indication that the system is halting around the time the graphics card is being initialized.  Try reseating the card and the cables connected to it.  If that doesn't resolve the problem try removing the card and reverting back to your previous graphics device.  If the problem goes away with the graphics card being removed then suspect the new card as being faulty.
