sata drivers for dimension 4700

Question

Where do I find SATA drivers for m Dimension 4700 with a WD1600 SATA Drive.  Iam trying to do an upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro and I am having problems.  It appears that I might need the SATA driver(s) but I can't find it anywhere.  THanks for any help.

brucemac.   You should not need a driver because your the 4700 is already confingured for sata operation.   Bev.

You will need the SATA floppy to install XP Pro. It's made from the Intel Application Accelerator software that should already be on your system.

I had to reformat my harddrive as part of the upgrade process and so do not have access to any of the software that was on it.  So how can I get the SATA driver fro Intel Accelerator...?  Dell used to supply Resource CDs but not with this machine. Message Edited by brucemac on 05-28-2005 05:55 PM

Thank you.  I downloaded the driver and installed them during a reinstall of Windows XP Pro.  The install seemed to proceed OK to completion and then triggerred the reboot at the end of the install.  During reboot, I ran into the same problem - the Dell flash screen appeared then blanked and then reappeared in a never ending cycle.  I pressed the Esc key and got a message saying 'Invalid BOOT.INI file' and 'Booting from C:\Windows\' at which point the system hangs.  Any ideas?

Assuming you haven't touched the Dell partition, press F12 and boot to the diagnostics and test the hard drive.

I just tried that and the SATA drive (Drive 0) passed the test.  Still unable to get past the endless rebooting after the Dell flash screen

brucemac   When you say the 'Dell flash screen'  do you mean the blue bar with WWW.DELL.COM?   If so, this is a program that resides on the Hard Drive Master Boot Record(MBR).  I believe this program looks for a Primary NTFS partition and the Dell Recovery Partition.  If you have no plans on restoring the original OS as delivered from Dell, you may try removing this (EX.  FDISK /MBR).   For more information see the 'Raiders of the Lost Recovery, Ctrl+F11, MBR Restore...'  thread.   There are links to MBR backup/restore utilities in case you ever want to return your system to the state is was delivered from Dell.       Sorry for the 2 premature posts.

XP Pro with SP-2 on the disk that came with my Gen 4, did not need the F6 driver option on a reformat and Raid - O install I just did. The first time I tried to load the system using the floppy with the ACHI drivers and the RAID Accelerator drivers, the machine bluescreened when I used the F6 option. I did leave the floppy disk in the drive, rebooted and ignored the F6 option and let XP do its thing. It pulled the info it needed from the floppy disk as it needed it without input from me. The only thing I changed was the boot order in the BIOS by putting the CD Drive in the second slot and disabling the third drive that held files and info from before the raid configuration of theprimary drives. The Intel 925X Express board has the sata drivers wired into the haedware from what I could figure and XP recognized them. It's about time Intel used this simple technology.
