strange text appears that i didn't type

Question

I got my computer a few days ago, and whenever I go into any program where I type, these strange words appear, as well as dots and dashes, that I didn't type! I scanned for viruses with the latest Norton software, but it didn't find anything. I don't know what to do.

Since you just recently got the PC, did you just scan with Norton or did you update the virus definition files to the latest? Make sure you have the latest virus definition file and then rescan the entire computer and hard drive.

If that doesn't show anything, it may be a defective keyboard or the keyboard isn't plugged in properly. If it's a USB keyboard, try plugging it in to a different USB port.

Since it's a new PC, I'd suggest calling Dell support, after you do the suggested checks if it's still bad.

I went to LiveUpdate and it seemed to have downloaded the latest virus definitions. Thanks for the help anyway.
