Hi simonow

There is only one hard disk slot on this system but you can install an additional mSATA SSD card.

Could you please provide detailed steps for what I need to do to re-install Windows 8, which came with the machine, on the new SSD? I'd like to install Windows and apps on the SSD and use the 2TB drive as storage.

Hi nmlon

Please click on the below mentioned link and follow the instructions to install the operating system. During installation you will get a message where do you want to install Windows?  Then you have to click Drive options –advanced-select SSD drive.

Please reply me if you need any further help.

Thanks for the replay Prateek. I can't see the link could you re-attach? My XPS 2710 already has an 32 SSD installed and configured as the Dell standard build. Are there any changes I need to make in the BIOS before I replace the SSD? Will installation automatically pick up the Windows key from the BIOS?

Thanks for the link. How do I create a clean Windows 8 Installation CD from the Dell system, does it not only create restore disks? I want to re-use the windows key in the BIOS, if I use any Windows 8 DVD will it pick up the key from the BIOS automatically?  Do I need to make any changes in the BISO i.e. changing to RAID for SSD? Thanks Prateek, I'm based outside the US, the OEM disc link, I believe, is for the US market. How can I get the OEM disc? Is there a link where I can download it from the Dell support page?

If I have my own retail Windows 8 key and disc could I just use that or will the key in BIOS not let me?

Thanks,

Noel
