I had upgraded from XP pro to Windows 7 Home premium.

No longer have audio for speakers.

Tried uninstall driver and restart, still no sound after found new hardware update failed.

Hi jgv1976,

Wow, still got the old Dimension 4700 running! That's impressive.

Yes, this is always a challenge finding a driver for an old sound card. Two things I would try.

First, try the Windows update button after Windows fails to find a driver. This can take a long time but frequently works. Second, do a manual search for a driver and just select the most generic one you can find.

If all else fails, go on Ebay and buy an old PCI audio card that's specifically listed as compatible with Windows 7.

You might try Windows Catalog, or the driver from another make.

Conversely, upgrading to Windows 10 (if possible) might bring a better driver.

Unknowns here. Did (not tested by Dell) Windows 7 install the required Intel 915G Grantsdale chipset driver? The AD1980 will not install if the chipset did not install first. But even then, I cannot find any Windows 7 drivers for it. I think osprey4 suggestion to look for a Windows 7 compatible PCI sound card is a good option.
