Dimension 4600 won't start up.

Hi, i am having a problem with my computer not starting up. When i press the power button, the computer turns on, lets out 6 long beeps and nothing ever appears on the screen. what is the problem here?

In case it is a hardware problem, these are my specifications (the video and sound cards were added in after i bought the computer):

P4 3.0ghz/800mhz FSB
1GB DDR333 RAM
XFX 6800 128MB
SB Audigy 2 ZS

*the first time this occured was while the computer was on and froze. I had to restart, and when i did, i got the 6 long beeps and it did not start up.

If you followed the link that was provided, you can lookup both the beeps and the lights.  The lights indicate a memory failure.  You can read more info on the link itself.

I saw that you have an 800mhz machine with 333mhz memory.  That's not correct.  So, did you add memory to your machine after you got it?  The memory should be running at 400mhz with an 800mhz fsb.

Bob123456789,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

What do the color led's labeled A,B,C,D on the back of the cpu read?  I do not have any diagnostic codes for 6 long beeps. Take a look at the advanced troubleshooting information on beep codes by clicking the link below.

when i turn it on, the A and B are yellow/orange and the C and D are green. They stay on right from start up. When i ordered my computer, i picked out a P4 3.06ghz/533mhz FSB and 1GB DDR333 RAM. instead, dell gave me a P4 3.0ghz/800mhz FSB and 1GB DDR333 RAM. this is odd but it is what happened. ok, now that it I know it is a memory failure, what should i do? get new RAM? I am under warranty with Dell so should they replace my RAM?

alright, i have identified that i have one PC2700 512MB Module that does not work. my other one does work. should Dell be able to replace the faulty module if i am still under warranty?

Yes, if the memory came with the system.
