No sound after Windows 10 update Optiplex 3010

Optiplex 3010. no audio drivers available. Sound quit working after Windows 10 update. I updated the BIOS and the chipset, but still no sound. It worked before two updates ago. I hopped the latest update would fix it. But it did not. Dell drivers does not list any audio drivers, let alone Windows 10 drivers. Has anyone fixed this

I just switched my OptiPlex 3010 from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro and had the same issue with no sound. I tried the driver suggested by ChrisM above and it worked fine. I wouldn't know how to, nor did I try to use compatibility mode - I just installed the Windows 8 driver and it worked.

The last Conexant CX20641/CX20651 HD audio driver we released was only for Windows 7/8. We did not release one for Windows 8.1 or 10 because those operating systems should be installing the innate audio driver. The only workaround you might try is to attempt to install the old driver in compatibility mode.

This is the error I get when installing the device driver from a third party source

Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

I am also unable to roll back the driver or run any Dell diagnostics on my computer. The programs fail to run or just hang for many many hours. The audio device worked up until three Os updates ago.

Well that is part of the problem. The drive page list zero audio drivers for any OS. Hence my request for help.

Until Microsoft fixes their driver issue, all you can do is uninstall the last 3 updates in the hopes of getting audio back. Then tell Windows Update to not install those updates.

Not going to back out three security updates. Why are there no sound card drivers listed for my system for any OS on Dell.s site?  It also states my system is ready for Win 10 upgrade?

The safety of my system is more important that a sound card, but why do I have to make a choice?

I cannot find any Windows 10 driver on our site for the Conexant CX20641/CX20651 High Definition Audio. I am at a loss to know which windows update bricked the driver currently loaded. Will keep looking.

Thanks,

Not sure why Dell does not list any audio drivers even for win 8

Thanks for your time and offer to help. it is strange, but if you do any research, I am not alone with this issue.

Cheers

This driver works with windows 10.

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=VWV9D.

Download and run the setup utility.
