Reinstalling windows xp

I have been having some problems with my computer with regards to the registry and spyware and other stuff. I would like to back up important documents, pictures, videos, music, and other files on my hard drive onto my ipod (using it as a storage device) and then reinstall windows xp making the computer as if I just got it from dell again brand new with only the original installed software on it. How do I go about doing this? If I do it, will I have to reinstall the software that came on the computer? Thanks very much for your help!

The reinstallation cd that came with the computer will guide you thru the reinstall. You can reinstall and erase the HDD or just reinstall the operating system.

terpfan,

Instructions for the procedure can be found here. Formatting the C:\ partition will remove all information presently on it, so you will have to reinstall your applications after the operating sytem and drivers are installed.
