XPS 8700 OUT OF THE BOX PROBLEMS

I had the exact same problems with my XPS 8700 that I purchased for my online accounting business. Unfortunately, the warranty had expired in August 2016  a month later it shut down permanently.I have always been in the habit of leaving my computer on all the time but a few times throughout the year, it had shut off like the power plug was pulled out of the socket. Each of those times I was able to push the power button and restart it, however the last time it went out pushing the power button would not get it restarted. It has sat from October 2016 to now April 2017 when I finally had the time to open it up and analyze what was causing the problem.

As a business owner, over the years we have always used Dell computers, desktops and laptops, in our office and  I kept two Dells that are still operational, a Dell Optiplex and a Dell Dimension 4500 and still using Windows 7 professional after retiring to Arizona. As a computer proffessional I have been servicing computer hardware and installing software since moving here in 2006 As an accounting professional, I provide online bookkeeping service. The Dell XPS 8700 was to enable the expansion of my online bookkeeping businsess. Fortunately for me my computer services background served me well and i took great precautions in maintaining backup and restore procedures regularly.

I acquired this desktop computer from Costco and it shipped from a Dell factory. Unless you have a specific remedy for the power button not working and the amber/orange light on the motherboard staying on, my expensive investment in a state-of-the-art desktop computer will be a complete loss. I still have the box the computer came in so I could ship it back for a replacement or to be fixed at no more expense to me as I have already put 20  hours of analyzing the problem without any success.

Apparently, you have had many complaints regarding the XPS and its power problems all of which have ended up in serious customer complaints. So tell me, what is the solution for fixing this problem?

Sounds like the power supply is the prime suspect.  Since you're out of warranty, repair/replace is at your expense, but this is the part:

Replace the motherboard battery, since it's been off for 6 months, at same time as the power supply.

NOTE: If you purchased PC by credit card, maybe your specific card offers extended warranty support which doubles the manufacturer's warranty. You'd need to contact your card company to get info and forms to claim repair costs after the original warranty expired.

That saved my bacon a couple of times when expensive things died after the factory warranty expired.

In addition, I paid cash for the computer and as I am in the computer business, I have always purchased commercial PCs rather then retail store PCs. Should have realized there was a reason for the one year warranty as opposed to a three year one.

After doing my research on the internet, I found there are so many of the XPS 8700s sold in 2014 and 2015 with this problem failing. Dell had similar problems with older models such as the Optiplex as well. However, it was the XPS 8700 computers failure renders them irreparable or costing as much as buying another computer to fix.

I will report this to Costco and let them know that these PC's are defective and warn them about procuring purported deals from manufacturers' dumping defective products at special pricing for their members to get stuck with. Yes, I'll *** it up and pay the freight but this is the last PC I'll purchase from Dell and the last time I'll refer their products to my customers.  I have been a Dell customer of for well over 30 years employing over 20 employees all with Dell computers and laptops. As I am semi retired and work out of my home, I still have two of their desktops that are well over 15 years old that I use everyday. I guess customer loyalty and product performance reliability doesn't mean anything anymore. And just to think, that the powerful XPS 8700  was going to replace my old dells and be the last Desktop that I would be purchasiing.HP ProDesk 600 G3 Microtower PC (ENERGY STAR) business with a Protected by HP Services, including a 3-year parts, 3 years labor, and 3 years onsite service (3/3/3) limited warranty,  here I come.

When the reset button is pressed, the light comes on and remains a steady green both fans are running, the power button flashes amber and I already replaced the motherboard battery. Still does not turn on.
