gx270 vs gx280
hi, im wondering, is the optiplex gx280 much better than the gx270? are there any significant changes applied to the gx280 that make it much more different than the gx270? Also, which one is better for the money, and what was the reason the gx270 was dicontinued so suddenly?
Im not trying to be pushy, but i am intrested. I have a gx270 with the following specs:
2.8 ghz p4
1 gb ram
64mb mx440
120 gb hdd
windows xp
will a gx280 really out preform a gx270 when similarly equiped?

Intel changes the socktets or goes slot socket slot socket like they did with Pentium2 and 3 and Xeon and Itanium etc.
Many computer makers grew tired of this and went with AMD.
:P
It was also INTEL that Told everyone that AGP was superior to PCI then changed its mind
and now says PCI is superior to AGP and the stories go on.
Agp was an INTEL game like the slot socket game to try and make everyone use INTEL ram
and INTEL chipsets.

The biggest difference I've seen between the GX270 and GX280 is the GX280 doesn't have any PS/2 ports. Your keyboard & mouse must be USB.

Hmm babbling nonsense! I love it!
There are a lot of differences between GX270/GX280.
GX270 is based off the Intel 865 chipset. It uses DDR1 RAM, AGP 8x, and has PS/2 ports. Cosmetically they look similar to the older GX280s.
GX280 is based off the Intel 915 chipset. It uses DDR2 RAM, PCIe x16 slot, and only has USB ports. There are two styles of GX280s by the way - they introduced a new BTX case with this model. It also supports 64 bit processors, which the GX270 doesn't.
Look at the specs sheets, there are a lot of differences
They were both discontinued long time ago so I don't know why you think they were suddently discontinued.
Right now I see no point in going from your system to a GX280 one.
