Unless there is physical damage to the power cable - dog chewed on it - it is something else.

Please list the troubleshooting steps you already have performed.

When the Dimension 8300 'cuts out', please check the following:

What is the colour of the power button LED, is it solid green, blinking green, solid amber, blinking amber, also check the sequence of the four Diagnostic Lights on the back of the case.

The 8300 Troubleshooter and Diagnostic codes are HERE

Are there any 'Beeps'?

Do any of the fans run?

Bev.

This is one of the models that had bad capacitors.  The recall on these models ended in 2008. So the machine is too old and too slow and no longer repairable economically.  Newer models like optiplex GX620, GX745, GX755, GX760, GX780 are very inexpensive and can be had at Walmart, Amazon, Ebay Etc.  GX620 is the oldest model that is still useable for Dos, Windows 3.1, Win95, Win98, XP, VISTA, 7,8,10.   My preference has updated to Precision 380 due to better power supply and more ram.  Parts from the 380 are interchangeable with models like the GX620.
