SCCM and Service Tags

Yes, ConfigMgr customers have been accessing Dell warranty information via script for many years. The scripts are widely available online, however it is not Dell supported. A supported method for ConfigMgr is in the works, but I don't have a timeframe for the release of it.

Let me clarify, if you are looking for just the service tag, that is available in your current hardware inventory in the BIOS data. If you want to cross reference the service tag with the warranty expiration date, then you will need to use the script or wait for the Dell supported solution.

Some guy at lazynetworkadmin posted a nice script that could do it. (http://www.lazynetworkadmin.com/knowledgebase-mainmenu-6/2-windows/46-query-dell-service-tag-revised). wouldn't be too hard to take the flat file and input into sql database and fix one of the reports to grab the info. I noticed the script uses WMI, so it would seem there should be an easier way if you could engage SCCM to add a custom WMI query... however I only see you can query SQL from the reports. So, one would have to engage an agent to query the info and put it into SQL before you would be able to get it back in reporting.

If you are looking for Warranty info, we have a Demo at MMS2011 this week on a new ConfigMgr plug-in that provides the Warranty info without having to use the HTML scrape. It is targeted to be available in June/July of this year.

Thanks for that information Warren. Does that plugin have the option to pull lease information as well? Specifically the lease expiration date.

The Dell Client Integration Pack (with Warranty info) should be out later this summer.
