Combine EqualLogic HIT and PowerVault MDSS software?
I am running a MS Hyper-V cluster, using an EqualLogic array for the VM storage. Additionally, I have a PowerVault MD3200i that provides storage directly to one of the VMs.
Instead of creating extra NICs on the VM to access storage directly, I would like to connect the LUNs to the host, and then provide them to the VMs as a passthrough disk.
I clearly need the HIT kit installed to connect the hosts to the EqualLogic, and all of my tests indicate that I need to have the MDSS/MDSM software installed to connect to the PowerVault.
Does anyone know if installing both on the same host is safe?

Besides the recommendations that Don provided about using dedicated subnets, NICs and at least separate VLANs, you'll also want to install MDSM before installing the Equallogic HITKIT, as I've seen MDSM break other MPIO solutions (even though it's not supposed to).
Be sure to use each software's appropriate tools to specify which subnet/network/NICs that SAN should use for MPIO.

Would it be safe to say that having both pieces of software installed is supported? That really is my original question. Although I do appreciate the recommendation of installing MDSM before HIT.

The other option (that is supported) is to use VMware ESXi. This has full native MPIO support. You can then use Round Robin for the MD array and the Equallogic SAN, and if you purchase Enterprise or Enterprise Plus licensing from VMware, you can install the Equallogic Multipathing Extension Module to manage the Equallogic connectivity.
