Dell VSM (Virtual Storage Manager) | Management Network Question

Hi there,

I currently have two separate networks (one iscsi and one management) these are two separate switches I have connections from the management ports of my EQL to the management switch and the rest to the storage switch. I have setup my dellvmm VM in VMWare with an IP from my management network... Now when I try to add the group IP of my EQL storage group it fails. Keep in mind that from the Virtual Storage manager (within VMware) I have no set up management network nor storage network (figured I didnt need this as my VM already is on the management network)... Do you have any solutions/ideas/feedback? Anything will help as I am stuck.

Be sure that you use the MGMT GroupIP rather than your iSCSI Group IP for configurtation. The VSM doent need a connection to the iSCSI subnet.... only to the MGMT if mgmt is enabled on the EQLs.

If you have a linux/windows VM with an IP from your MGMT Network around try to ping the MGMT Group IP and see whats happend. If that work check if VSM is connected to the same VM Network Portgroup and runs on the same ESXi (just to be sure).

Most of my EQL setups are 10GbE (SFP+)  so we always use the dedicated MGMT within a separated subnet. All VSM, SANHQ, VCSA, ESXi are located here.

Joerg
