Drive not approved for Array PS6100

We have a PS6100 out of support that had a drive go bad.  Ordered a drive from a reseller with the same exact specs and firmware as the drive that went bad.

Both are branded as Dell Enterprise Plus

DP/N 0J8NC8
P/N 0B26335
MLC MK0P2B4
WMN: 500CCA01BA71A88 (vs 718A0 for the original)
F/W P2B4

Even manufactured wiht same date, Mar 2013 and code E240353 TH

I don't understand how it keeps saying this one isn't supported.  Trying CLI to clear the label comes back with it already being not supported.

Ideas?

Hi,

Try rebooting the array with the drive out and then putting the drive in. https://dell.to/3dWhYQ7

Hello,

Rebooting the array isn't needed.  There are a couple of likely options.  The model # and firmware are not what determine if a drive will work in a PS Series Equallogic array.  The drives are made especially for the EQL arrays and the array software detects that.  You cannot convert a non-EQL drive to work in an EQL array.

The other possibility is that the replacement drive is a 4K sector size drive.  Older EQL firmware, less than 9.x I believe won't recognize that sector size.

The same issue holds true for SC arrays, powervaults, etc..  You can't mix them.

Most likely it is not a branded EQL drive.

 Regards,

Don
