In most cases, we generally see IQN as the most common method for EqualLogic volume access.

Hello...

In your scenario, I believe SCVMM will default to using IQN for volume access.  I am not aware of a way to instead use CHAP at that stage.  You do have the option, of course, to later use Dell EqualLogic management tools to modify the volume access control list to use IQN, IP, or CHAP -- although it is not required.

I can assign a volume to one host. But not to another after that.

I have a logical unit assigned to a host group. The volume have no acl entry, it is set to read-write, shared.

I go to properties of the first host "hv1" / storage / add disk.

The SMP provider creates a acl entry with the initiator name "iqn.1991-05.com.microsoft:hv1.saxsys.de".

The volume is correctly mounted on the host.

I check the volume in vmm under fabric / storage / classification and pools.

It shows the host and it shows the iscsi initiator name in properties.

My understanding is, that I now go to the second host and repeat the steps.

But I cannot select the volume in add disk. It does not show.

Do I have to use the same IQN on all hosts or do I have to add the IQN on the logical unit before I can add it to another host?

The TR1094 does not cover this, it only uses one single host...

I dont use SCVMM but when you create a volume on EQL there is a check box for allowing multible access to a volume and its DISABLED on default. If you have something like a cluster you would like to tick the checkbox because otherwise only the first host can connected (doesnt matter if the ACL allows more).

I tried by adding the IQN of the second server through the vmm under fabric / storage / classifications and pools. It was successful added as a acl entry on the volume, but I still cannot add the disk on the host properties.

After adding the IQN and let vmm create the acl entry, the volume is shown in the iscsi initiator on the second host. I can simply connect with the iscsi initiator, but no luck with the vmm add disk...
