Extremely slow HBA rescan in VMware when using EqualLogic MEM 1.1
I'm running ESXi 5.0 with the EqualLogic MEM 1.1 and I'm seeing extremely slow (15 to 20 minutes) HBA rescans when using the MEM. Before installing the MEM rescans happen in a matter of seconds. I have 3 different hosts, all experiencing the same issue, so it seems it's an issue with my environment, and not a configuration setting on a specific host. I'm really at a loss as to what to check.

Disabling MEM using "setup.pl --disable" made no difference (rescan HBA time was 15 minutes, 20 seconds, rescan VMFS time was 2 minutes 13 seconds).
I am running ESXi 515841 and MEM 1.1. The storage array is a PS6000 running firmware 5.1.1-H2 (R189834).
So I think at this point, I have ruled out the MEM as being the culprit, this leaves me with VMware or the PS6000. Anything else I can look at?
Also, I don't know if it makes a difference, but my iSCSI network uses 10.* IPs, but the default gateway is a publicly routable IP, since VMware seems to only allow one default gateway for all VMkernel ports. I don't think this would be an issue, but since it's not entirely right, I'm pointing it out.

Hi Matt,
I had the same kind of issue and for me the solution was to remove an old iSCSI Target that was not been removed from the Dynmamic Discovery Tab of the iSCSI Storage adapter properties.
Take a look to that.

I am curious if/how you resolved this issue. We've fought it for a while. I am about to open a case with VMware unless I can find a resolution by searching. So far, no luck.
We have a client with two ESXi hosts (no vCenter) and a single EqualLogic SAN. The Rescan All operation takes about three seconds. We have a single ESXi host and a single EqualLogic SAN in an isolated test environment (set up just for testing this issue), and the Rescan All operation takes 1 minute 32 seconds every time. We have removed all iSCSI targets except the single SAN in the test environment.
Any ideas you may have will be appreciated.
