PS4000E controller failover

Hi,

We have a PS4000E which i was testing for redundancy today.  I started by removing one Ethernet Cable from active controller and everything remained running.  I then removed the second cable so it had no live i SCSI network connections.  At this point i would have expected the second controller to take over but it didnt?

Is this normal behaviour for a setup with duel controllers?  I thought they where meant to be Active\Standby which i thought would have been triggered by they loss of connection?  As it stands it didnt even error.

Thanks for the help.

David,

The array only does "hardware" fail over", i.e., if one controller fails, the second one will take over.  In your test, the controller didn't fail.  If your looking for redundant ethernet pathing, you need so setup the host for MPIO or multi-pathing, and ensure you "SAN network" infrastructure is setup for this.  The following discusses this pretty good: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/CjSA1VnfNTHzy7O03UbN0g485148.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Joe
