The array only does "hardware" fail over", i.e., if one controller fails, the second one will take over. In your test, the controller didn't fail. If your looking for redundant ethernet pathing, you need so setup the host for MPIO or multi-pathing, and ensure you "SAN network" infrastructure is setup for this.
