Unable for format LUN on PS400E
Hello,
I'm hoping someone can offer a suggestion to a problem we are having formatting a LUN from a PS400E to a Windows 2008 R2 server.
We have 2 older PS400E members that we recently migrated from. I think at this point they would make good Tier 2 or 3 storage for some other projects. After moving all the data off, I removed all our existing volumes and created one large 13TB volume, provisioned it to the storage server, and tried to format it. Disk Management of course asks me to initialize it and set the partition style to GPT, which works. Next I create simple volume and do a quick format. This is where it fails with "The format did not complete successfully". Odd thing is it marks the disk as Healthy, but I can't use it or mount it. It lets me delete the partition and try again, but always fails. I've tried different allocation sizes, that hasn't helped. I even tried a long format and it got all the way to 99% and then failed.
We are using MPIO with 2 adapters connected via a switch to the group. I've installed the latest HIT 4.0.0 64bit too. The iSCSI Initiator discovers the proper targets, so I'm really at a loss as to what might be going on.
I did try hooking the storage back up to the old server, which is running Windows 2003 and I was able to format the storage just fine there. So this makes me think there is something I'm missing in 2008.
Last, I have tried volumes of different sizes. Initially I figured maybe the size of the volume was the problem, but even going down to 20GB volume I have the same problem.
Could anyone offer any pointers to get this formatted properly in 2008? Anything I might have missed?
Thank you,
Jay

On our Powerconnect I do have them on a different VLAN. The Cisco was just a temp thing, but good information to know in the future for sure. I managed to get them upgraded to 5.2.5 in the meantime. :-)
Thanks!

Don,
Thanks much, that was the answer! I'm temporarily using a Cisco 2960G switch while I configure it. When it was working, it was on a Powerconnect 5224, which I believe has better support for Jumbo and flow control.
Thanks!
