off-host backup using EMC Networker

Hi,

I have about 30TB of file data on Windows 2008 R2 file servers attached to a group of PS6500E's running v5.0.2.  I'm curious if the Off Host Backup for plain old file data is possible with this mix?  EMC documentation covers off host backup when using VSS-based application modules (SQL, Exchange) but not regular file data.

Cheers,

Eugene

Did you mean to post this for EMC arrays or Dell/EQL arrays?

VSS aware backup applications can be used for any type of data.   SQL/Exchange require more integration to insure proper backup is all.

Dell EQL arrays.  Backup software is EMC NetWorker 7.6 sp1.

OK, thanks for clarifying.

Yes, you can use off-host for any type of data.  VSS at a minimum, pauses IO to that volume, and flushes cached writes.  Thus helping to create a very consistent snapshot.
