2nd battery - Latitude D600

At the risk of seeming incredibly stupid - I inherited a Latitude D600 - has a spare battery module that I understood could recharge in the CD/DVD media bay.  Doesn't fit.  Am I missing something here? 
 
Battery is identical to the one in the battery bay - part G2053 A01
 
What's the point of having a spare if you cannot recharge it in the laptop?

There are two batteries for the Latitude D600.  One primary battery, and a secondary battery that fits in the media bay.  Obviously, the person who purchased the system purchased it with two primary batteries.  You will have to put the second battery in place of the first in order to charge it.  You will not be able to charge both batteries at the same time.

Thanks for the information.  I think you are correct and will pursue other options regarding the 2nd battery.
