All details about Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 RAM ?

I have 1 DIMM, 4GB, 1600MHZ, 512X64, 8K,204 Ram . I want to know every detail one should remember while taking a  ram for my dell laptop .

Welcome to Dell community.

Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 supports following memories:

  • DDR3 DIMM at 1333 MHz with Sandy Bridge Processors
  • DDR3 DIMM at 1600 MHz with Ivy Bridge Processors

This system supports a maximum of 8 GB system memory.

  • During installation or removal of any hardware, always ensure that all data is backed up properly.
  • Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer.
  • Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.
  • Remove the AC adapter from the system.
  • Remove the Battery from the system.
  • Remove the Base Door from the system.

Steps to remove Memory :

1. Gently pry the securing clips away from the memory.



2. Remove the memory from the system.

I already have one slot full with DIMM, 4GB, 1600MHZ, 512X64, 8K,204 . Can you suggest me one ram from the following which will not be a waste of money as may be my computer not be able to use new ram to the fullest .( because of Overclock of previous ram )

DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V

I don't think so. A dell costomer care person told me that voltage req is 1.5 >> http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19586867.aspx
